Tips for Expressing Breast Milk

  • Make sure hands, pumps and containers are
    washed and clean.
  • Express approximately the amount the baby
    takes to feed
  • Make sure that the storage container is
    covered or sealed
  • Store milk in the back or body of the refrigerator
    or freezer
  • Do not add fresh milk to previously
    expressed milk
  • Don't heat milk in the microwave
  • Don't refreeze milk that has been thawed
  • Use the oldest milk first
  • Discard milk that is past the time limits for safety
