The Cry-sis Support Group was founded by a small group of parents who were experiencing problems with their crying and sleepless babies.

From its modest beginnings The Cry-sis Helpline has developed over the last 26 years to become a well respected and national charity. Our aim is to be professional, effective in providing self-help and support to families with excessively crying and sleepless babies. To achieve this we run the Cry-sis Helpline 365 days a year. Callers to the helpline number are put straight through to a volunteer member of Cry-sis. The volunteer provides a sympathetic ear, non medical advice and on-going support to the caller. Enabling them to devise strategies for coping during this particularly stressful and overwhelming period of parenting.

Many parents whom we help are simply exhausted and dejected by the day to day struggle to care for a highly demanding baby. This can affect the whole family, relationships are strained, some break up altogether and siblings also suffer. Where few parents have the traditional support of an extended family, loneliness and isolation contribute towards an intolerable strain on the family. Many have lost confidence in their parenting skills and need support and advice to help them regain their sense of self worth. Some, driven to total desperation, express a desire to harm their babies and their call to the Helpline is their own cry for help to which our dedicated volunteers respond. Every year we are able to help prevent tragic outcomes.

The Cry-sis Helpline is unique. No other organisation provides the form of support that our trained volunteers, all of whom have experienced crying and / or sleep problems within their own families, can offer to parents.

In addition the Cry-sis Helpline publishes leaflets and free information to professionals who refer many parents to us.
