Typical New Mum Experiences

The first few weeks of your new baby's life can be a confusing time. New mums may experience some of these common problems.
  • Huge elation and happiness with occasional bouts of depression. Having a baby for the first time can be a roller-coaster of emotions.
  • Changes to the body - You may experience some vaginal discharge for the first week or so and your body temperature may fluctuate.
  • If you had a natural birth you may feel some discomfort or cramping in the perineal (lower womb) area.
  • If you had a caesarean delivery you may experience incision pain or some numbness.
  • Constantly caring for the child during the first weeks can cause exhaustion so do rely on friends and family, talk to other young mums about the same experiences and solutions.
